W.P.D. High Risk Entry Team
Mission Statement
Recognizing that the missions of the Wise Police Department High Risk Entry Team are performed in a dangerous environment and understanding that the safety of innocent citizens, officers, and suspects is often jeopardized by hazardous conditions, it is the mission of the Wise Police Department High Risk Entry Team to utilize trained personnel and special equipment to reduce the risk of injury or death to all involved during the performance of a tactical situation. The Wise Police Department High Risk Entry Team was formed in May of 1995. The purpose of the H.R.E Team is to complement the Department’s total service program by providing for the deployment and use of trained personnel, special weapons, and tactics when necessary to contend with an “unusual situation” that cannot be effectively dealt with by line operations. The primary objective of the H.R.E. team is to provide specialized supportive and tactical actions to include, but not limited to:
* Neutralizing the efforts of barricaded persons
* Combating sniper actions
* Counter-acting hostage situations
* Expediting high risk arrests or warrant service
* Protecting dignitaries
* Search and rescue operations
* Tactical narcotics enforcement
* Life threatening situations
* Provide training and HRE tactics to local law enforcement
Such other unusual situations as may require the specialized services of HRET as specified by directive of the Chief of Police or his designee
The High Risk entry team is commanded by a team leader who is directly responsible to the Chief of Police. The team trains regularly and can be deployed within minutes as the occasion arises.
